Common Household Pests
Household pests not only are an annoyance, but can also cause damage to your health and property values. Use this guide to help identify the pests in your home or office.

Ants
Ants are the #1 pest problem in the United States. They can enter your home in the tiniest of cracks. Ants gather in colonies up to 500,000 in quantity and live in or near you house, lawn or even under foundation. Ants can live up to 15 years.

Flies
These bacteria carriers can cause disease in pets and humans. Carrying over a half-billion micororganisms on it's body, the fly can spread diseases rapidly. Two flies can produce more than 1 million offspring in under 2 months.

Cockroaches
This unsanitary pest can enter your ea es home through cracks, crevices, vents, drain pipes, and even grocery bags. Your home is an ideal warm home with plenty of food, water and nesting sites. Cockroaches can rapidly reproduce behind your walls.

Rodents
Not only do rodents carry infectious diseases, they also can destry your furniture, electrical wires, and more. Rats are instinctively wary of traps and baits. One pair of mice can produce 200 offspring in only 4 months.

Termites
Termites feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of wood, leaves, soil or animal dung. These pests are best known for destroying building structures. Prevention is always the best weapon against termites.

Fleas
These small parasites have powerful legs allowing them to jump 16 inches in distance. A flea depends on a host to survive. Their eggs usually are laid on the floor and can hatch in 1 to 2 weeks.

Crickets
Crickets usually live and breed outdoors and only invade buildings when searching for food or shelter. They are mainly active at night and attracted to bright lights. Crickets will eat just about anything.

Spiders
These eight legged pests invade your home through windows and doors. Spiders leave unsightly cobwebs and feed on insects. Several species of spiders have bites harmful enough to require medical attention.

Mosquitos
These pest are distinctive form other flies due to it's long stinger. Adult females feed on blood and can carry diseases. Mosquitos rely on a water source to live. They breed in dirty, standing water.

Ticks
Ticks vary in color by species. The American dog tick is one of the most common. Both feamles and males feed off of blood. Ticks can cause varouos diseases (including Lyme disease) in the animals that they infect.

Hornets
Pests such as hornets, bees, wasps and yellow jackets can leave a nasty sting. Depending on the species, these stinging insects can live in colonies of thousands of individuals. These pests can show aggressive behavior.

Beetles
These common pests can be found in a variety of locations. There are over 12,000 different species of beetles in the United States. While some beetles feed on your food in your pantry, others live outside and feed on other insects.
